This is a very entertaining documentary short by good friend Alex about a very colorful Queens, NY resident called Miss Colombia. What I love about Miss Colombia is that ‘she’ could care less what you and I think, as long as ‘she’ is fulfilled  and not hurting anyone, Miss Colombia will be doing the Miss Colombia thing!!

With corporate Jamaica again in a frenzy to cover the shit stains of their Down Low ‘bros’ & ‘uncles’ from being seen by regular folks (who know its there but just dont have the evidence to prove that they are running some raahtid drug and sex rackets), yuh would be heartless to look at Miss Colombia and not admire his resolve to be who Miss Colombia is, as opposed to the money grubbing liars and perverts at the head our country and industry who are using sex and sexuality to whore their ways into money and power.

When I was a sophomore in film school I interviewed a local Jackson Heights celebrity known as “Miss Colombia.” I had often come across Miss Colombia on my way home from school or the movies as a kid. Her inappropriate humor and bold costumes left a permanent impression on me growing up. Kind of like Lady Gaga, in a creepy uncle sort of way. Upon my re-cut of this footage, I am evermore inspired by her vitality and courage.

Lex and his Puerto Rican bredrin Danny have had a deep impact on my overstanding of culture. When I first came to America, as far as I concerned they were white boys. Kill me dead they were white and had nothing to do with Africa. After hanging out with them a couple times I was blown out of my mind to hear Danny chant and sing in Yoruba and Lex play the Congo drums!! Here began my interest in Afro-Latino culture that eventually led to this documentary short that actually features Danny himself.

It became a regular thing for us to link up and discuss our individual heritages- music, history, natural medicine… They even went as far as getting a Jamaican proverb book and would hit me with the “Sarry fi mawga dawg, mawga dawg tun roun’ an’ bite yuh” and others at random :)  Good times, good times!!

OMG!!! I got crazy goosebumps watching this!!! When talent like this shines I remember how great the human capacity and life is. And all I can do is be human and shed tears.

The first time I felt this feeling was in prayers at Andrews one morning when DEMETRIA was on stage singing. If you went to St Andrew High School Jamaica between 1997 (the yr this kid was born) and 2002 yuh gone way outta dis world, YUH LUUUUUUUUU-NER if yuh dont know Demetria!! You know the girl with the KILLLAAA voice and that we always figure more or less was Marcia Griffiths family (still dont know if this is true). But that morning when Demetria sing bout Jesus, nah lie I was ready to dip and come up and bawl out halleLUUUUUUlah. Yes mi bawl in prayers dat morning and I nuh really mix up with no Jesus business, so you know that shit had to be powerful.

Anyways, the first note likkle yout hit here reminded me of Demetria! His voice is harrrddddd, and the piano skills……..:: insert your favorite bad word here::::

I mean….jeeeeeeeezzz….what makes some people go so hard???? Cause you can tell the youth is feeling it,is living it, IS that piece of music.

He does sound like Gaga for tru dont it!! But with the piano and the passion Greyson Michael Chance(dubbed LITTLE LORD GAGA) is THE CHAMP!!

I am so excited: This is hands-down my favorite show. If you have not seen this cartoon you need to get on it right now!! It stars Regina King as the voice of two kid brothers whose Grandpa (played by Pop from Wayans Brothers) comes upon some money and moves them out of the Chicago ghetto to a rich rich neigbourhood and what happens then.

Singer, producer Richie Loops has been churning out some pretty sharp rhythms for Scikron Entertainment/Big Yard in recent months. From ‘Maad a Road’ to the ‘Brainstorm’ rhythms, Loops has shown that he has the potential to be – if he is not already – among the very best producers in Jamaica today.

My Cup is a party song. It has the swagger. It has an infectious beat that gives it immediate international crossover appeal and lyrics simple enough to make them memorable.

“The concept is simple still; it’s about having a party. You know some people when they go to a party or club, they have their nice cup of juice, and nobody knows what’s in there. Everybody wants to know what you drinking, if it’s Hennessy you drinking, if it’s Red Bull and Guinness you drinking. Well, if it’s my cup, nobody has to know what I am drinking,” Loops says.

The song, he says, has an international flavour, so he is hopeful that it will take off in the international market.

Damon Williams is still a teenager and has already learned how to invest and collect return on his money.
