Lil Wayne Finally Goes Behind Bars

Posted by Zigz On March - 9 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

*After four false starts, Lil Wayne was finally taken away in handcuffs to begin his year-long jail term for attempted criminal possession of a weapon.

The rapper was sentenced in Manhattan Monday, where he’ll serve his sentence in city jails, not a state prison. He could be released in about eight months with good behavior.

The Grammy Award-winning rapper, born Dwayne Carter, pleaded guilty in October to having a loaded .40-caliber semiautomatic gun on his tour bus in 2007.

Before Monday’s court appearance, it had proved difficult to actually begin Weezy’s agreed-upon sentence.

His first sentencing was postponed in February so he could undergo surgery on his jewel-encrusted teeth. Then, a fire shut down Manhattan’s main criminal courthouse while he was on his way there last week – causing two more delays.

City jail officials haven’t said where the multiplatinum-selling artist will be housed among their roughly 13,000 inmates. His lawyer has said she plans to ask for protective custody out of concern for his safety and health following his extended oral surgeries.

The US have continued to press the government of Jamaica not to let up on drug policing in its Annual International Narcotics Control policy Report.  This department of Obama’s administration have been watching Jamaica intensely because they want the extradition of  Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke. ‘Dudus’ rose from boy in Jamaica to one of America’s most wanted druglords. In WTF News today: Crime Museum Wants O.J.’s Acquittal Suit

Posted by Zigz On March - 4 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

One day after an offer to house O.J. Simpson’s acquittal suit was rejected by the Smithsonian, the National Museum of Crime and Punishment – also located in Washington – has pitched itself as an alternative.

The museum’s Chief Operating Officer Janine Vaccarello made the request in a letter addressed to Fred Goldman, reports TMZ.com.

But more parties have to sign off on the idea before the suit can be acquired. Goldman’s attorney, David Cook, tells TMZ a unanimous decision has to be made between his client, Simpson and the suit’s owner Mike Gilbert.

Buju Banton’s Trial date changed

Posted by Zigz On February - 10 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

CaribWorldNews, MIAMI, FL, Weds. Feb. 10, 2010: The trial of reggae singer, Buju Banton, has been pushed back to April, his attorney says.

Attorney David Markus says the trial of the singer, born Mark Myrie, will not start by next month due has been pushed back due to `conflicts.`

`It has been pushed back because there were so many conflicts. The prosecution`s agent will be having a baby in March and April 12 is the only date convenient for all parties,` Markus told Chat!.

Markus has said previously that he intends to prove to that the US Government entrapped his client into purchasing cocaine and used a paid informant to entice him for almost a year.

Banton has been in jail in Florida since December and is facing drug and conspiracy charges. He was arrested at his Tamarac home in South Florida  and accused of negotiating with undercover agents to purchase five or more kilograms of cocaine at Sarasota in Tampa, Florida.

Fresh from Lockup, Mystikal Discusses prison bid

Posted by Zigz On January - 20 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

*New Orleans rapper Mystikal has given his first radio interview following a six-year prison term for sexual battery and extortion.

“My feet back on the ground. Man it’s been a long time,” the MC told radio jock Wild Wayne from New Orleans’ Q93. “I’m back. I’m still trying to feel this reality. It feels like a dream. Watch how I’m going to shake this world up now. I want reparation!”

Following his release from jail last week, the artist – best known for his hits “Shake Ya Ass” and “Danger (Been So Long)” – has five years of probation and must now register as a sex offender in Louisiana.

Mystikal says he has plenty of new material written and record labels have expressed interest in signing him, although he does owe one more album – as far as he understands – to Jive records.

Asked what got him through the six-years on lockdown, Mystikal – born Michael Tyler – said, “To be honest, I ain’t do nothing. It had to be God. When I look now, it seems like it was easy because it’s over. But going through it — it was tough. I had to get out the way and let God handle it for me. He had his arms around me tight.”

“You gotta be down to earth,” he continued. “I took it in stride. There’s always worse [things]: especially after 1994, the death of my sister. Nothing could be that bad. Then [No Limit rapper] Soulja Slim had just died [in 2003]. I was grieving him and mourning him. I was kinda numb. It was a lot of things. But now I’m back.”

Fraud Promoters Watch Yuh Step!

These fraud reggae promoters need to get this treatment

A promoter in Arizona is facing prison time after being indicted of creating a Ponzi scheme and making over $25 million by booking fake concerts for a number of artists including 50 Cent, Mary J. Blige, U2, The Rolling Stones and Jamie Foxx.

34-year-old Miko Wady was charged with 37-counts of wire fraud and money laundering and appeared in front of a federal judge Thursday.

According to court documents, between 2004 and 2007, he used $3 million dollars paid to him by investors to live a lavish lifestyle. Prosecutors believe he used the money to purchase at least 30 vehicles for himself and others including a Lamborghini, Ferrari and a Bentley. He also bought a $175,000 luxury boat and a $800,000 home.

He is believed to have only actually promoted around 10 concerts in the three year period.

After police discovered the scam, the total amount owed to his 140 victims totaled around $25 million.

If convicted of wire fraud, he could receive up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The transactional money laundering charge carries a 10 year sentence and a $250,000 fine as well.

White House to transfer some Guantanamo Bay detainees to Illinois prison.

Posted by Zigz On December - 21 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

Taking an important step on the thorny path to closing the U.S. detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, the White House plans to announce Tuesday that the government will acquire an underutilized state prison in rural Illinois to be the new home for a limited number of terrorist suspects held at Guantanamo.

Administration officials as well as Illinois Sen. Richard Durbin and Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn will make an official announcement at the White House.

Officials from both the White House and Durbin’s office confirmed that President Barack Obama had directed the government to acquire Thomson Correctional Center in Thomson, Ill., a sleepy town near the Mississippi River about 150 miles from Chicago. The officials spoke on the condition of anonymity to avoid pre-empting Tuesday’s announcement.

A Durbin aide said the facility would house federal inmates and no more than 100 detainees from Guantanamo Bay.

The facility in Thomson had emerged as a clear front-runner after Illinois officials, led by Durbin, enthusiastically embraced the idea of turning a near-dormant prison over to federal officials.

The White House has been coy about its selection process, but on Friday a draft memo leaked to a conservative Web site that seemed to indicate officials were homing in on Thomson.

The Thomson Correctional Center was one of several potential sites evaluated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons to potentially house detainees from the Navy-run prison at Guantanamo Bay. Officials with other prisons, including Marion, Ill., Hardin, Mont., and Florence, Colo., have said they would welcome the jobs that would be created by the new inmates.

Closing Guantanamo is a top priority for Obama, and he signed an executive order hours into his presidency directing that the process of closing the prison begin. Obama has said he wants terrorism suspects transferred to American soil so they can be tried for their suspected crimes.

BUJU UPDATES: Label stands by him, Lawyer to be replaced

Posted by Zigz On December - 21 - 2009 1 COMMENT

Gargamel Music Incorporated has announced their full support for their star reggae artist Buju Banton, who was arrested December 10 on federal drug conspiracy charges.

According to Gargamel president Tracii McGregor, Banton will be provided with top legal service representation from David Oscar Markus, who is a veteran of many high-profile drug cases including that of former Panama military dictator Manuel Noriega.

Markus is set to replace Banton’s current attorney Herbert Walker III, who represented the singer for his initial court appearance.

“It’s on and popping. Walker has never really been our attorney,” McGregor explained to CaribWorldNews.com. “This is Buju and we’re going to get him the top legal representation there is. We are ready to fight. I saw him yesterday and told him to go inward and preserve you.”

`Rasta Got Soul` singer, Buju Banton, is confident he will be exonerated

Posted by Zigz On December - 17 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

That`s the word from Banton`s attorney, Herbert Erving Walker, III, a licensed practicing Florida attorney for over a decade. Walker`s comments come as the singer yesterday waived a bail hearing and agreed to be transferred from Miami to Tampa to federal drug charges.

bruce_cartoon_buju_clovis

`He`s confident he`s going to be exonerated,` said Walker, III. `He`s a very spiritual person. He`s a very positive person.`

Banton, whose real name is Mark Anthony Myrie, appeared in court in a beige jail jumpsuit yesterday, his signature dreads pulled off his face. The 36-year-old sat expressionless speaking only to confirm his real name, age and the fact that was indeed waiving his bail hearing in Miami to be transferred to Tampa.

The four-time Grammy nominee is accused along with two others of allegedly attempting to buy more than five kilograms of cocaine from an undercover law enforcement officer in Sarasota last week.

Banton was arrested Thursday at his home in Tamarac. The charges carry a maximum sentence of over 20 years in prison.

Meanwhile, Banton`s loyal fans continued to support him on social networking site Facebook, with many insisting it is a set up and urging all to remember that the singer is `innocent until proven guilty.` This as his label, Gargamel music continued to stay silent on the accusation.

BREAKING NEWS: Jamaican Rogue Cop Harry “Bungles” Daley Found GUILTY

Posted by Zigz On December - 16 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

THE highly anticipated verdict in the corruption trial of Superintendent Harry ‘Bungles’ Daley reached a guilty verdict this morning. Daley has been sentenced to 18 months hard labour but had his bail extended pending appeal.

He must appear in Spanish Town Resident Magistrate’s Court on January 15 to answer five other charges of corruption.

Senior Magistrate Judith Pusey was set to hand down today’s verdict in November at the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court but had to delay due to “ill health and other factors”.

Daley had been on trial stemming from allegations that he had, since 2007, been collecting money on a monthly basis from businessman Tafari Clarke in return for protection of a plaza in Ewarton, St Catherine, which Clarke’s relatives operated.

Prisoners Are Contributing to Science and Green Technology

Posted by Zigz On December - 15 - 2009 1 COMMENT

My first 2 pieces of published journalism (for a teen mag) asked the question why should there be detainees who are doing nothing everyday when there is always so much to be done. At the time I was saying things like ‘they should be growing food to feed hungry children at school’ because when prisoners sit in jail everyday doing nothing, it still costs the public  something, even just to lock them up in those cells.

And now, as I start my own blog, I still stick by this idea: that inmates should be helping society at large through programs that can give them some sense of importance but will also provide raw material or products for industry and commercial areas. It means teaching inmates what can turn out to be valuable skills that can help them when re-entering the ‘outside world’ and it also gives them something to care about, to know that the betterment of such and such depends on them.

Today I came across this example of the kind of thing I would like to see Jamaica do, since we are the sweet ‘land of wood and water’:

Prison seems an unlikely source to find eco-inspiration.

Until now.

Prisoners at Stafford Creek enrich their lives and science

Prisoners at Stafford Creek enrich their lives and science

The offenders at the Stafford Creek Corrections Center in Washington are going green through a partnership with The Evergreen State College and The Nature Conservancy. The project is saving money and resources and helping enrich lives.

Dr. Nalini Nadkarni, a faculty member at Evergreen and a Washington trustee for The Nature Conservancy, started the Sustainable Prisons Project in an attempt to cultivate tree mosses to supply the floral industry.

Now the program works in two Washington prisons, where offenders learn how to raise endangered Oregon spotted frogs, reclaim wastewater, recycle on a massive scale, nurture honeybees and grow rare prairie wildflowers.

The partnership helps prairies, but perhaps even more rewarding, it helps offenders develop important skills to use when they re-enter society. And if a prison can go green, save money and enrich lives, what’s stopping the rest of us?

Buju Banton Arrested for 5 KILOS of COCAINE in FLORIDA! ***Updated***

Posted by Zigz On December - 15 - 2009 2 COMMENTS

It seems like the DEA have Buju Banton on the money!!!

If the reports go so, then Buju contacted a source last Monday and later on in the week he and 2 other people drove in a conspicuous car (license plate “JAHONE”) to Sarasota where they met with this “confidential source” to buy 5 kilograms of cocaine. The case against them alleges that his ‘co-conspirators’ returned without him at a later date to buy a much larger quantity where the sting operation was carried out. Buju was picked up later at his apartment in Tamarac, Florida.

They won’t appear in court until tomorrow, Wednesday Dec 16, so they have not officially been charged, but a DEA affidavit is saying that they have video footage and that their source was (audio) bugged the whole time.

Buju’s lawyer, Dr Herbert E. Walker III, sent an email to the Associated Press saying only that he was happy to represent the artist and that Buju Banton is ‘vigorously denying these allegation.’

**  LOOK YA - I did a quick search of ‘Dr Herbert E Walker III’ and found that he is a former Miami-Dade State Attorney, who presently has a Christian show on South Florida radio, who resigned from his post as State Attorney because he was accused of sexually harassing 5 women in 2007!!! Look Here!!

Couple Crashes Barack Obama’s first State Dinner and Shops Story to Reality TV

Posted by **Admin** On November - 29 - 2009 2 COMMENTS

Last week,  a man and a woman WHO HAD NO INVITATION, were allowed to enter Barack Obama’s first state dinner with no question’s asked until after the fact. The couple-Michaele and Tareq Salahi-posted pictures to their Facebook account and began taunting the media with their story, and so it came to light that they were not invited.

The Salahi's and President Obama at the state dinner

Meanwhile, the cia admits that it was a break down in security at one of the checkpoints. They also tried to make it clear that the couple went through all weapons checkpoints and that there were definitely no harm to the president.  They must be really embarrassed because the couple was overlooked (for whatever reasons) and allowed to enter what is supposed to be the tightest security for any one person in America on them saying that there ‘must have been some mistake.’

The Salahi’s were already ‘maybes’ for the “Real Housewives of Washington” series, and are using this story as more fodder to whore themselves out to reality TV. The man, Tareq, is a director on the Virginia Tourism Board.  Isnt this kinda like balloon boy’s parents doing something stupid in a bid to secure a reality show?

Even though the were allowed to enter, they knew they were not invited and lied to the CIA and the white house. Isn’t that against the law? Are these people really going to be allowed to live out their 15 minutes of fame as the ‘white house dinner crashers?’ Isnt that trespassing or some shit?

This couple straight up disrespected and embarrassed the president and the secret service while trying to cake from it- dont they deserve some type of punishment?

Shyne Visits Belize Prison and Chats With Inmates

Posted by **Admin** On November - 28 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

Moses Michael Levivy, better known as the Rapper Shyne, is sharing his experience in a New York prison with prisoners in Belize.

The rapper, now the most famous deportee, broke away from `hibernation` from his penthouse at the renaissance tower in Belize City and visited the Hattieville Prison on Thanksgiving Day in the U.S., Thursday, where he spoke to about 400 inmates.

6082_Shyne.jpg

His visit was mainly to inspire the inmates. He told them that he never thought that a `young dude` who had a hard life in Curassow Street would reach the highest level in America culture.

`Anything is possible,` Levivy said.

He urged the prisons that they must not sit in prison and cry but plan their lives out as he did.

Levivy was deported to Belize a month ago.

But he urged that there can be no excuses. Shyne has not disclosed what plans he has for the future.

Another Rapper Behind Bars

Posted by **Admin** On November - 13 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

Hip Hop and the courts are no strangers but these last couple weeks have left us lacking.

T.I’s down, Lil Wayne and Lil Boosie are also getting locked up over the course of the next year and now its Mr. “Hi Hataz” himself:

The State V.S. Radric Davis could not have been a better title for Gucci Mane’s debut album.

His infamous run ins with the law have reached a boiling point and he’s currently in jail after being sentenced to 365 days behind bars. According to a rep for his label, Gucci was arrested Thursday and immediately taken to prison for violating his probation. Just last year Gucci found himself locked up this time for failing to perform over 600 court mandated community service hours.

The State V.S. Radric Davis is still scheduled to drop Decemburrr 8.

Damn Gucci! First T.I., then Boosie, then Wayne and now Gucci?!

One thing’s for sure, when TIP gets out he’ll have no competition.
