THE BRUCE GOLDING SAGA: Pastor calls out Jamaican Leader while his wife sits in congregation

Posted by Zigz On May - 16 - 2010 1 COMMENT

OUTSPOKEN Adventist pastor Lorenzo King yesterdaymade the call for Golding to come clean during the weekly Saturday morning service at the Andrews Memorial Seventh-day Adventist Church in Kingston.

Before delving into his sermon, King and the church choir held high placards that read, ‘We want truth’, which was also the theme of his sermon.

The pastor said he was willing to demonstrate along the roadway for the truth and asked for volunteers from the congregation.

But the “full truth” that the nation has been clamouring for since the Manatt affair broke, may never come according to a statement by Mrs Golding, just moments before King’s stirring sermon.

“I must tell you, Bruce is fine,” Mrs Golding told the congregation, while outlining that she has been drawing strength and inspiration from the Bible.

“He is taking some responsibility that he has to take and whatever he says you must read between the lines because he can’t say everything,” added Mrs Golding who appeared frail, an apparent sign of the weight of the crisis that has engulfed her husband.

The furore over the hiring of the US law firm Manatt, Phelps & Phillips to lobby Washington for a favourable outcome in the contentious Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke extradition matter, and the apparent web of deceit spun by the ruling Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), escalated last week Tuesday when the prime minister, after much denial and pressure from the Opposition and other groups, announced in Parliament that he was the one who gave the OK for the engagement of the firm.

Golding, however, maintained that Manatt was hired on behalf of the JLP and not the Government. Manatt is, however, saying otherwise.

Last Tuesday, Golding told the Parliament that the US$49,892.62 used to hire the law firm came from party financiers.

But his admission of his role in the matter, as well as his attempt to separate his responsibilities as JLP leader from those as prime minister triggered a landslide of calls for his resignation.

Those vocalising their displeasure with Golding said he had dealt deceptively with the Jamaican public.

However, his supporters, mostly party members, are maintaining that Golding, with his admission, has dealt forthrightly with the public.

The whole saga has been triggered by a request from the US Government last August for Coke’s extradition. The Golding-led administration has refused to sign the extradition order for Coke, whose stronghold of Tivoli Gardens lies within the prime minister’s West Kingston constituency.

Lil Wayne Gets Busted … in Jail

Posted by Zigz On May - 16 - 2010 2 COMMENTS

Incarcerated rapper, Lil Wayne, was caught Monday with music “contraband.” Officers found headphones, a charger, and a watch that doubles as an MP3 player in Wayne’s cell, hidden inside a potato chip bag. Though it isn’t a real issue, the offense may add a bit more jail time for him, a source told MTV News.

“You just get an infraction, a violation,” the source said. “You lose some ‘good time.’ It depends on the severity of the infraction. Level one is the worst. Then you have [level] two or three. [This infraction] could be a level one. He has to go on trial, and based on evidence, they’ll make their determination.”

Despite the prison’s high level security, Wayne possibly obtained the objects during a visit. MTV’s source says he may have gotten the contraband through another inmate. The source also says Wayne would have to go to trial before a captain or correction officer within 48 hours of the incident, but as of May 13, the source was unaware if that had taken place.

The source also informed reporters that the rapper currently holds a job as a suicide-prevention aide, looking out for suicide risk inmates.

“He checks each cell or area to see if each guy is alive. There are three shifts,” our source said. “I think his shift is at night, like 11 [p.m.] to 7 [a.m.] or 12 to 8.”

Wayne was arrested in 2007 for attempted gun possession in Manhattan at the Beacon Theatre after a performance. Due to stringent New York gun laws, in March he was sentenced to one year in prison.

JUDGE REJECTS BUJU BANTON’S REQUEST

Posted by Zigz On May - 15 - 2010 1 COMMENT

Buju Banton has been denied access to files requested from the state of Florida for his drug possession trial.

The Gargamel and his lawyers were refused access to the civil tax liability documents of the confidential source or the informant.

Prominent attorney at law David Rowe says the judge sided with the prosecution sighting that the trial is not about whether the informant has paid his taxes but whether or not Buju Banton was selling cocaine.

Buju Banton has been in U.S custody since December 10 last year.
Authorities said they videotaped Buju Banton trying to purchase cocaine in a Sarasota warehouse in December.

The incarcerated dancehall deejay is expected to stand trial date on drug possession charges on June 21.

Another Member of the Dancehall Community Shot. Cobra released, Oniel still being treated

Posted by Zigz On May - 15 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Another member of the entertainment fraternity has been shot up.

Producer Rado of Armz House Records was shot several times last night (May 13) in Spanish Town. Irie FM Music News understands that the producer’s car was shot up along St. John’s road. Reports are that he received three shots to the chest before crashing at a gas station in the area. Rado is currently being treated at hospital.

Rado of Armz House Records is the producer of Mavado’s “Gal Ova Gun” on the Double Action rhythm and Twin of Twins “Fren Ting” on the Night Vision rhythm.

Rado is the third member of the entertainment fraternity to be shot up since the start of the week. On Monday Oniel of dancehall group Voicemail was shot several times and is currently in hospital while on Tuesday dancehall deejay Cobra was shot in the chest and arm. He has since been treated and released

The recent upsurge of violent attack on the entertainers have prompted members of the industry to organized a Peace March scheduled for Sunday, May 23. The march, which is called ‘Walk For Peace’ is set to start at the Police Officers’ Club in New Kingston and end at Heroes Circle, in downtown Kingston.

Ricky Trooper Under continued US Investigation

Posted by Zigz On May - 10 - 2010 1 COMMENT

UNITED States authorities maintain that Jamaican music selector Ricky Trooper had a real gun in his now infamous video monologue in which he abused Prime Minister Bruce Golding, some people in the entertainment industry and instructed that the recording be placed on YouTube.

The selector, whose real name is Garfield Augustus McKoy, is one of five prominent Jamaican members of the entertainment fraternity who lost their United States visas recently.

Trooper, ace deejays Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Mavado and Aidonia had their visas revoked by the United States at the end of March, resulting in losses to them of hundreds of thousands of US dollars, due to several cancelled shows and performances.

Man Who Murdered Malcolm X Freed From Prison

Posted by Zigz On April - 28 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

After serving 44 years behind prison walls, Thomas Hagan, who admitted to his role in the assassination of Malcolm X, was paroled on Tuesday.

Hagan is the only man to confess to killing Malcolm X, who was gunned down back in 1965 during a speech delivered in New York’s Audubon Ballroom.

“I have deep regrets about my participation in that,” he told the parole board on March 3, according to a transcript. “I don’t think it should ever have happened.”

According to the New York State Department of Correctional Services, Hagan, 69, was released a day early due to paperwork being processed faster than what was initially expected.

Pleading a case for freedom last month, Hagan asked that he be returned to his family and hoped to become a substance abuse counselor.

Being held at the minimum-security Lincoln Correctional Facility, Hagan serviced his time by being a participant in a full-time work-release program that started back in March 1992.  As part of the stipulations of the program, he was given the opportunity to live with his family five days of the week and report back to the prison the other two days.

Initially, he was sentenced 20 years to life imprisonment after being found guilty back in 1966 while the other two involved were released in the 1980s and still deny their involvement in the murder.

As part of his deal, Hagan was required to acquire and maintain employment, support his children and abide by a curfew while he is free.  According to Hagan, he has been working for the past seven years at a fast-food restaurant.

In relation to his release, the Nation Of Islam has been sought out, but they declined any comment on the news.

Kartel denied work permit to St Lucia

Posted by Zigz On April - 21 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Vybz Kartel’s travelling options have again been limited, as he was recently denied a work permit to perform in St Lucia.

A statement from the St Lucian government yesterday stated that Vybz Kartel will not be given a permit to perform in that country next weekend.

It said: “Having looked carefully at the significant amount of information presented, and considering the views and opinions of the many individuals and institutions as well as available options, the Government of St Lucia, through the Ministry of Labour, Information and Broadcasting, has decided not to grant a work permit to Mr Adidja Azim Palmer, otherwise known as Vybz Kartel, for performances at the Hot FM-promoted Supreme Weekend show. This show is scheduled for April 30 and May 1, 2010.”

It continued: “Government has written to the show promoters and has offered them the option of reapplying for the granting of work permits to the other artistes included on the show with the exclusion of Mr Adidja Azim Palmer, aka Vybz Kartel.”

When contacted by THE STAR, Vybz Kartel gave no comment on the matter but noted that the decision is being appealed by the show’s promoter, Patrick Smith.

Prior to the decision, a committee was set up to decided the pros and cons of the request to have Vybz Kartel there. Some of the things done included a comprehensive research of the artiste’s musical repertoire; soliciting the views and opinions of key institutions and organisations in the country; reviewing the rationale given for the denial of work permits for the artiste in neighbouring countries; and determining the general impact of the artiste’s performance on the population, particularly the youth, amidst consistent calls for higher ethical standards and morals from a wide range of persons and institutions in society.

“The Government is cognisant that St Lucia is part of the CARICOM grouping and we will, as we have been doing, encourage and facilitate the free movement of artistes. However, the administration holds the firm view that artistes, promoters and Government have a shared responsibility as much as possible to ensure that standards prevail to the benefit of the country, particularly to the vulnerable youth in our midst,” the statement said, noting that the government hopes to facilitate public forums to inform its approach in the future.

WTF are we gonna do? DANCEHALL #FAIL- Troopa, Killa, Flippa

Posted by Zigz On April - 12 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Jamaica is in a state of utter political and economic fuckery; from day one I say that our culture is one of the few things that can we can develop and use to stabilize ourselves, but when the popular culture is seen as the disappointing child who never grew up to be anything, then this is going to reflect on the artists and those they influence.

1) Flippa Mafia.  Flipper, seriously??? You were the Flossin King, now you turn washed up Dolphin!!!!!! Do you know how that image replay over and over in my head of you on a boat in yuh gucci shoes and belt, curl up hiding under a slab a board from some likkle coast guard bwoy search, searchin round the place? Imagine if him did mek it thru how him woulda be flossin’ on us. And the worse part of it all is that dem say is yuh bredrin hook yuh up with a link that yuh pay $3000 US to and  yuh eventually end up informing on the 2 bredda dem (about the other illegal immigrants they had on the boat).

2) Killa, dem say you neva see smoke without fire yuknow and is years now dem say yu nuh ramp fi beat yuh woman dem. What type of shit is that, lol and yuh stand by yuh actions –> the one phone call they give you to make when they lock you up, you call the girl that call po-po on you and tell her yuh have more raahtid box fi her!!!! Is like oonu naah see dat when it come down to it you are just like we and no celebrity status nah keep yuh out of the shit pit that is jail. All the same, wtf are we supposed to say. This young lady who was upset and call the cops on Killa now feels differently and wants him out and in her arms. So a state of National International Emergency  (yes I did say that, did you read this?) because you lovers quarrel with the biggest artist went wrong and now you want us all to ‘low di Killa because yuh tink him learn him lesson….smh…. no more words for dat in case I awaken the feminists

3) Ricky Trooper. You get the biggest #FAIL out of everyone. And I almost want to blame you for Aidonia, Beenie, Mavado, and Killa losing their visas.  And to the men and/or women who published that piece of footage of Trooper drunk and belligerant, shame on you too. Did you not think that somehow this little 15 minutes was gonna have some serious repercussions? Forget Trooper, people act hype whether its MTV or their neighbor behind the camera, but personally, as a person who takes on media, I would not release that so soon after shooting no matter how much Trooper say ‘put it pon youchuuube’ for fear of his dumb ass getting shot. Lucky enough for him, they’re only taking away his two visas. (Didnt see the Trooper Mid-Career Crisis Drunken Rant? Click here)

For a second these three men seems untouchable,  Flipper from the sea because we still hear the chatter of the mixup from before he was the flossin king; Killa because after years of being accused of being an abuser he is actually arrested for it; and Trooper only because he called it on himself and said he was untouchable. This is Uncle Sam, Jamaica already running low sake of Brucey samfying out the extradition ting. Did I not read today that is crazy undercover CIA dem sending into wi likkle place??? … And along with a barrage of other smh-moments on the part of us yahdies, JA and dancehall is staring in the mirror

Bail Denied for Bounty Killer

Posted by Zigz On April - 7 - 2010 1 COMMENT

Dancehall star Bounty Killer was denied bail on Wednesday while he awaits trial on charges of assaulting his girlfriend.

The artiste, born Rodney Price, is accused of striking the woman because she wanted to end their relationship. Police on Wednesday said in a statement that he later threatened her in a phone call placed while in custody.

His attorney, Linda Wright, said he would fight the charges. A trial is scheduled for April 14.

Top entertainers visas revoked

Posted by Zigz On April - 1 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

The visas of five of Jamaica’s top entertainers have been revoked.

According to information from the Fraud Prevention Arm of the United States Embassy in Kingston, the visas of Bounty Killer, Mavado, Beenie Man, Aidonia and selector Ricky Trooper are now being canceled.

A document obtained through our sources advised airlines not to allow any of the entertainers on flights bound for the United States.

The cancellations follow that of businessman Wayne Chen who recently found out his visa had been revoked while he was about to board a flight to America.

University law professor David Rowe had predicted that there would have been visa cancellations as backlash for the Government’s denial of the extradition request for West Kingston strongman, Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke.

Deejay Flippa Mafia is now in the Miami Federal Detention Centre but we have been unable to ascertain whether he has been charged with any crime. We checked the Federal Bureau of Prisons website and his full name, Andrew K. Davis, popped up in the organisation’s database as a 31 year-old black male.

The Federal Detention Center (FDC) in Miami, Florida, is an administrative facility housing male and female inmates.

FDC Miami is located east of Miami, at the corner of NE 4th Street and N. Miami Avenue.
