Posted by Zigz On March - 10 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Okay, so what’s really going on with Tanbad, Ms Thing and Director (at Terminal 4 Media with Psycho), Jay Jay?  Looks like both of them are Psycho’s women and ah jus so it go.

I dont see whats the big deal about them being topless- they are on a topless beach in St Maarten. I done pree that a lot of us women that are hating are doing so because we dont have the guts to make this move. Now posting them to facebook (they are on Psycho and Ms Thing’s pages), obviously they were awaiting exactly this- the media and blogosphere creating a frenzy around it.

A few of the pics disappeared from Tanbad’s facebook page since yesterday, lucky for us, they were already circulating. Check out the last two photos!!!!

Ziggy pours out his passion in Dancehall Originators

Posted by Zigz On March - 9 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

MULTIPLE Grammy winning artiste Ziggy Marley, is so passionate about showing respect to the musical trailblazers and ensuring that their legacy is cherished and passed on to the next generation, that he has produced the first in a series called Dancehall Originators Vol 1.

“These youngsters today don’t know enough about the music, where it originated, the who’s who … the veterans who made it happen and the riddims that played such an integral role in the success of the whole thing. It’s important that we understand the past … the legacy, so that we can build and shape the present and the future,” the eldest son of icon Bob Marley declared.

It was out of this realisation that the Dancehall Originators project was born. Ziggy says he threw out the idea to his sister Cedella and VP Records’ Christy Barber and they were both sold and put their all into seeing the project come to life.

The album, a compilation of original dancehall mixes and which also features the ground-breaking Hot This Year riddim, was released last month. Dancehall Originators Vol 1 consists of tracks by Dirtsman, Peter Metro featuring Tanto Metro, Coco Tea, U-Roy and George Nooks, Charlie Chaplin, Chaka Demus, Yellow Man, Pinchers, General Trees and Buju Banton. There is also a Taking You Back Mega Mix, by DJ Roy of Road International.

Dirstman, one of the artists featured on Ziggy Marley's 'Dancehall Originators'

“It’s all about showing gratitude,” he reiterated, while adding that in other cultures this is the norm.

“Reggae music is very valuable to us and we need to treat it with the respect that it deserves,” he said.

Regarding his recent Grammy win — his fifth — for the album, Family Time, a compilation of children’s songs and which features heavy hitters such as Paul Simon, Jamie Lee Curtis, Rita Marley and Laurie Berkner, Ziggy said he was “very happy”.

“I feel good about this Grammy, especially since it’s in a different category from what we are used to. I give thanks for the recognition and realise that this means more hard work as we show the world the versatility that lies within us as reggae musicians and singers,” he said.

Family Time won in the category, Best Musical Album for Children.

BLACK RHYNO LEAVES PORTMORE EMPIRE…..Like we didnt know this was gonna happen

Posted by Zigz On February - 25 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Even a blind woman could have seen this one coming>>> BLACK RHYNO is no longer a Gaza Thug, now he’s jus a plain old thug. Isn’t it hilarious that CLAUDE MILLS’ website reports that CLAUDE MILLS was unavailable for comment  ummmmm>>>>Kartel/Empire, I keep telling you that yuh need fi stop tek we (the public) fi eediat. Your bridge is almost fully burned up so watch yu step, watch yu step step, watch yuh move…….

In what could be a crippling blow to the fortunes of the Portmore Empire, one of its leading members, DJ Blak Ryno, has chosen to exit the troubled crew, making it the third high-profile exit in only eight weeks,

“Mi a leave the Empire…is not anything to do with financial problems or nothing, mi just a leave, star,” a pensive-sounding Blak Ryno told one876entertainment.com earlier today.

Efforts to get a comment from Portmore Empire head Vybz Kartel, or Gaza publicist, Claude Mills were unsuccessful.

Sources say that the tension had been brewing for some time and that Blak Ryno felt that the time was right to call it quits.

“Him mussi feel say him can mek it on him own, so him can cut now. Him nah come ah the studio regular from wah day ya and yu coulda feel say something wrong,” one source told this website.

Ryno’s exit follows those of Gaza Kim, who opted out of her management contract after she was allegedly beaten on the Gaza, and Lisa Hyper, who was unceremoniously dismissed after her performance at Sting 2009, and weeks after photos had emerged on the Internet with her performing a sexual act on an unknown male.

KYM (formerly Gaza Kim) says ‘Screw You Adijaheim Records & Portmore Empire’

Posted by Zigz On February - 9 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

The deejay formerly known as ‘Gaza Kim’ has made it public that she is no longer bound to Vybz Kartel’s record label, Adijaheim Records.  After admitting to being beat up by Portmore Empire cronies, Kym decided that the gaza strip was not an environment for her. Somehow Kartel’s talent is being overshadowed by his (seemingly) tyrannical ego trippin’ and as smart as the man be, he is diggin himself a grave by treating the fans as if we are idiots with a statement like the one posted here. Here is the latest from Kym:

Over the last eight to nine months (8-9 months) my career was managed by Addijahem Records. The Management Contract has been terminated and I’m now pursuing independently my career.

I’m now focusing on driving my career and past events in my life have only made me stronger and more driven to achieving success.

I would like wish my former Management Team all the very best in their endeavors.

Tony Rebel makes plea to cleanse dancehall

Posted by Zigz On January - 26 - 2010 5 COMMENTS

I have been arguing for a minute that for dancehall music to thrive economically on the international level, the artists have to move away from the “girls, guns, ganja” monotony.  Tony Rebel said similar things a few weeks back at Rebel Salute’s launch, but we differ in that I definitely am not telling any one to ditch dancehall for roots and culture just because that’s whats selling. Here’s a piece from Steven Jackson, writer at the Jamaica Observer, reporting on Tony Rebel arguing for a clean up of dancehall for the sake of making it a money maker:

Germany’s Adolf Hitler, France and the US taught the world about violence and sex, charged event organiser Tony Rebel in a plea to cleanse dancehall of explicit lyrics. Explicit dancehall, his argument suggested was not marketable in Europe and contributed to poor US sales in 2009.

“You can’t preach violence in music and expect the people of Germany to accept it. Because Hitler already show them what violence is. You cannot teach the French and the Americans about sex. A dem mek it,” Rebel who spoke at the recent launch of Rebel Salute stated.

The top deejays of 2009 were Mavado and Vybz Kartel whose explicit recordings and tribalised fans fuelled the ‘gully versus gaza’ divide. But Kartel and former mentor Bounty Killer also traded lyrical curses along with Flippa Mafia and Elephant Man. The music remained mainly underground but formed the subtext of poor sales in 2009: A year in which no dancehall artiste sold over 80,000 copies in the US market, according to Soundscan.

Rebel added: “What they love about us, is when them going through hardship and terrible times dem hear ‘don’t worry about a ting’. That is what they want…don’t apologise for endorsing and loving and support the real authentic side of Jamaica music.”

International reggae charts continue to be dominated by non Jamaican reggae artistes. For instance iTunes reggae charts in Japan, Germany and New Zealand, on January 1, had only one Jamaican-born artiste — Bob Marley — in the top ten, signalling to some pundits that Jamaica is losing influence on reggae.

Top sellers in the US market were Sean Paul’s Imperial Blaze (Atlantic Records), Matisyahu’s Light (Epic Records) and Reggae Gold (VP Records), which sold some 69,700, 56,700 and 40,000 respectively in North America. Conscious reggae group Morgan Heritage and dancehall producer-turned-singer Serani, made first week sales of 300 and 1,200 units respectively, but were still able to chart on Billboard.

Gaza Kim admits to being Beaten while Kartel is still unsure of these “allegations”

Posted by Zigz On January - 25 - 2010 2 COMMENTS

The question that i’m sure has been asked thousands of times today is “a wah really a gwaan pon di gaza?”

Apparently, Portmore Empire’s Gaza Kim tek a serious beating over the weekend and since the streets were already talking about it,  Kim released this statement to confirm that she was in fact “assaulted”

I will like to make it known that I’ve heard rumors about an incident that occurred over the weekend.

I Kim Hamilton AKA Gaza Kim will like to make it publicly known that I was indeed assaulted over the weekend. I’ve visited the doctor but I’m still traumatized but recuperating through my ordeal.

I’ve taken the necessary actions to correct the wrong that was done against me and legal advice is been sought.

I ask my fans, family and friends to not only sympathize but empathize with me in my time of need.
Future comments will be made through my publicist and legal team.

This statement is an official statement made available through my publicist and other media broadcast will be coordinated at a later date by my representatives.

Signed:Kim Hamilton

Not long after, Kartel released a statement about the same incident. Bwai, is like the Gaza Emperor cant catch a break! His camp is in controversy after controversy, as if being the most popular dj is not enough. Here is his statement, followed by what I think

In response to allegations that Kim Hamilton, popularly known as Adidjahiem Records/Portmore Empire siren Gaza Kim, was physically assaulted over the weekend, Adidjahiem Records CEO Adidja ‘Vybz Kartel’ Palmer issues the following statement:

I, Adidja Palmer, condemn this alleged attack on Gaza Kim. And if these allegations are true, I urge her to contact the relevant authorities if she has not yet done so,to deal the matter swiftly .

I do not condone violence, especially any attacks against females and children. Gaza Kim is a very young and very talented singer who I hope will reach far in her musical endeavors whether or not she is a part of the Portmore Empire. My deepest sentiments go out to her. –Adidja Palmer–

Now, me speculating:

Kartel it seriously look a way that you say “alleged”! Why didn’t you contact yuh artist before yuh reach New York to release statement? If she was indeed assaulted and didnt link you before releasing her statement then you, as the boss, coulda still try to see what was up in di empire

Then, by choosing “alleged” and “allegations” its almost as if he doesn’t believe Kim himself (then why should we), but then again Kartel is a real smart man, right,  he must know that that would have been questioned as undermining the beating.

Sounds like a breakdown in communication to me. Is what go so wrong that the Emperor couldn’t personally call him squaddy and see if shi okay or is he just ‘playin fool fi ketch wise’

How does ’she is very young’ drop een?? giving away more than you need to babes

Am I reading to far into it or does this sound like a precursor to the “you’re fired” speech——> ‘whether or not she is a part of the gaza” and the fact that now she has a separate legal and publicity team to the rest of the gaza….so yuh basically telling us that not everything smooth with Kim and the Gaza, right?

Im not saying is a gaza beatin’ shi get, but I AM saying that someting inna someting…………..but you all knew that already, dont?

Ms Thing and Psycho Tan Bad go nude in “Bonify”

Posted by Zigz On January - 20 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

The latest sex-driven buzz in the dancehall is or better yet are Ms Thing’s boobs hanging out in the raw video for “Bonify”, her song with Psycho Tan Bad. The two artists are either playing the media real good or are really living out the story of their song in a “relation-shhhhhhhhhh-ip” (their words, not mine). Personally the breasts hanging out is neither here nor there to me; I hardly even consider bare boobs nudity, but it is definitely taking the dancehall sex element to a different level now that an artiste is coming forward on her own (boobs in hand) and not being ‘caught’. I like it, bold move and I think that women who cant appreciate a little boobage ever so often have a serious problem and are probably stuck up in the lesbo closet (lmao mommy I know u goin cuss me bout dat one, sound ign’ant fi real)

Psycho Tanbad’s stomach is banging but why cant we see waa gwaan below di waist?? Psycho whaa gwaan fi di uncut uncensored reel, us ladies wanna see……

Big up to Jamaicangroupiemet.blogspot.com for posting a working link to the vid

On another note I wonder whose gonna be the first dancehall male to get caught up in a picture scandal :.:.cough cough:.: Liquid :;cough:;cough ;. waaaayyy Before Milk video bus the top media insiders had seen the real video (not the cell one we saw) and  i was told that it existed and then months later bang, picture bus, who get kick or lose dem job.. u know the rest..Anyhow from it nuh reach yet it mus safe cause this is from 07.

DJ Shine- The Prodigy

Posted by Zigz On January - 10 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Im featuring DJ Shine mainly for the fact that him look damn good, dont care how shallow you think I am!!  I was checking out Heineken Green Synergy just to see that focused trance he has when he’s spinning, but it was his talent not his looks that gave him that crown. Let’s be real though, put a cute dude or a good looking girl as the face of your product and you have more of a chance of getting noticed, so CY clothing defintely have a winner with this him.

Check out this short profile on him and then see DJ Shine looking scrumptious as hell and learn more about him and his Hit Factry

While attending St. Catherine High School, he realised that music was his calling, and then began to hone his craft on sound systems around his community of Spanish Town. With his knack for making the a party come alive, DJ Shine and the Hitfactry sound came into existence.

“I have always loved music and just seeing people dancing to the music that I am playing, keeps me motivated”, the 21 year old sound system selector revealed.

After failing to gain a place among the finalists in the 2008 Heineken Green Synergy DJ Competition, DJ Shine re-entered the competition in 2009. He finished 4th and has since emerged as one of the most sought after disc jocks coming out of the competition.

Popular parties and events including Barcode, 11:59, Hennessey Artistry, Footloose and Heineken Good Times old school parties; Integration Thursdays at UWI Mona Campus; Drinkxx, Solstice, Mimosa, Holy Childhood High BBQ and Xmas Cookout (2009) are among DJ Shine’s credentials.

DJ Shine was chosen as one of the faces for the television commercial for the US-based CY Clothing Line, which made its debut in January 2010. The 2010 Youth View Awards and the Coke Zero Presents Sean Kingston Concert in 2010, are just some of the events that DJ Shine’s will showcase his wizardry on the wheels of steel.

A mix tape with the latest hits culled from different musical genres is among DJ Shine’s projects for the first quarter of 2010. For more information on DJ Shine, check out his facebook page at www.facebook.com/shinehitfactry

Tifa Grabs Five YouthView Nominations

Posted by Zigz On January - 8 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Things are looking real nice for Tifa. I’m so loving her new track “If I Could Fly” where she flexes her vocal cords to show us she is not only a deejay, she can really hold a note too!!   We were all waiting to see if she would answer Lisa Hype and I think its a good look that he hasn’t replied seeing that the youth of Jamaica were about to nominate her 5 times for her work in the bizz over the past year.

Check out what the yout’s put Tifa up for:

http://www.dubtunes.com/dub/2008/12/11/tifa.jpgJust days into 2010 we can look back at 2009 and state that it belonged to the dancehall industry here in Jamaica and especially for fast-rising diva, T-I-F-A. Self-proclaimed as the B-A-D-D-E-S-T for the ‘09, she proved this by dropping hits such as Spell It Out, Sick, Boasy Wid It, Ah Who Go Luu, Why, Holding Powers and a host of others. With such hard work, sharp lyrics and vibrant and innovative videos it should come as no surprise that Tifa has been nominated for 5 Youth View Awards (YVA).

The awards ceremony which is slated to be kept on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at the National Indoor Sports Centre is an annual award show where local celebrities are given the nod from the teens across Jamaica as the best in entertainment and pop culture.

With a successful 2009, Tifa walked away with the 5 nominations and she will be going up against other acts such as D’Angel, Alaine, Voicemail, Tessanne Chin and Tami Chynn and others in the categories of Favourite Local Music Video, Favourite Female Dancehall Artiste, Favourite Female Artiste of the Year, Female Fashion Icon of the Year and finally the coveted Young, Hot and Hype Female of the Year.

2010 has already started and Tifa is already hard at work. She is scheduled to perform at the Coke Zero concert on January 16 and is gearing up to drop a lot more singles and videos. According to Tifa, “for 2010 you can just expect to see more quality music and A-class videos. You are going to be getting a lot of deejaying but you can expect a few singing tracks as well.” Her newest song If I Could Fly which is a cover for Junior Tucker is out now and is expected to be taking over the airwaves in a matter of weeks.

The dancehall act is taking an even more positive approach in 2010 with her new slogan ‘2010 the year I began again,’ and said that she feels “humbled and honoured” for all the successes in her life so far. In regards to her YVA nominations Tifa had only two words to describe her elation, “that’s hot”.
