(Kingston, Jamaica) – Chino and one of Reggae/Dancehall’s most internationally renowned sound systems, Federation Sound, have once again teamed up to bring fans the mixtape, The Formula 2. The Formula 1, which was released in 2008 and featured Chino and other artistes including: Assassin, Timberlee, Bramma, Laden, Wayne Marshall and others, did well in the dancehall market and reinforced the artistes’ lyrical prowess. The Formula 2, released a few days ago has 52 tracks of remixed perfection. In addition to dubs and songs from the main man, Chino McGregor, there are also great singles by Stephen “Di Genius” McGregor, Freddie McGregor, Shema McGregor, other members of the Big Ship family including Laden, Singing Sweet, Bramma, Frisco Kid and their close affiliates: Mavado, Assassin, Miss Kitty, Aidonia, Baby Cham, Elephant Man, Wayne Marshall and others. Some of the remixes include Chino and Alaine’s Me and You (Secret) on Gyptian’s Hold Yuh riddim, From Mawning on Jay Z’s Do It Again rhythm and more. Singer, G-Whizz is “feeling ” techno/house music, so to speak. G-Whizz whose correct name is Garland Rowe has released yet another track and it’s a far cry from what his fan-base is accustomed to.

The single, Feel It/Dance Tonight was G-Whizz’s idea. He says, “The idea actually came when I was in the club having a good time. I got an idea and house music is something that I listen to so I decided that it was something that I wanted to try. It has a good club vibe for here and overseas,” he said.

It almost seems like a gross understatement to say, ‘Reggae/Dancehall artiste Chino has been hard at work’. This is so because the singjay has released more than seven impressive songs over the past few weeks and has no intention of slowing down.

Among Chino’s new releases which have already started to heat up radio-land, are Before Dem Gone produced by Stephen “Di Genius” McGregor on the Big Ship label; No Gyal on the Catalogue Riddim also produced by Di Genius on the Big Ship label; Sound Execution on the Stagalag Riddim, produced by Shane Brown on the Jukeboxx label;Gyalist Fi Real on the Ward 21 label; Haffi Get A Girl on the Premium Riddim on Demarco’s Starkutt Records; Money Round also featuring Di Genius and Ricky Blaze on ZJ Chrome’s CR203 Mad Collab Riddim. In addition to that, another recent single, Badmind, which was also released for sale on iTunes has been receiving steady sales. The single, which is a part of the compilation Di Genius, called Labwork Vol. 2. The single will also be released on Chino’s Never Change slated for release in the Japanese market in July.

Regarding his continuously growing catalogue of songs, Chino, whose correct name is Daniel McGregor says, “Music is something that I love but it’s also a craft that I respect. I always try to look at my surroundings and give my own spin on it, whether it’s a party setting that would inspire a song like Money Round or a song like Before Dem Gone which was as a result of everything going on in the country now. Basically once I observe something and get a vibe, I get in the studio and sing what I think and feel.”

Additionally, Chino will be working his way across the island this weekend at a number of shows which include, Islingston High School’s Barbeque tonight (Friday); the highly anticipated Western Consciousness concert tomorrow night followed by a performance in St. Elizabeth on Sunday night.

Vybz Kartel has scored yet another international remix, this time with R & B superstar Alicia Keyes. The remix, which was reportedly done by US-based Cipha Sounds, has been generating great buzz in the urban market in the US.

“They sent the track, and me and Notnice basically put it together and sent the finished product to them,” Vybz Kartel said. “It’s an official remix.”

Vybz Kartel has done international collaborations with a slew of top artistes including Missy Elliott, Rihanna, Pharrel, Mims, Machel Montana, Pitbull, and Jay Z.

It’s Just a Matter of Time

So yesterday I went through my I Tunes and this song was played the longest ago out of all of the music in my library; meaning  that I’ve listened to all other songs on my laptop since 2/3/08 10:11 am except this, until now!! I wanted to konk myself!! This song is hottt!!!

It instantly made me think of my Mother because she always says that one thing my generation lacks is social leaders. Mama Earth thinks that musicians and artists can be good role models but when they are the ONLY role models it creates problems since their artistic persona is not necessarily who they are in real life.

I’ve had this conversation with many of my friends over the past few months (maybe even year) and guys I love you, but yuh talking utter F*CKRY when you try to tell mi that the music is not influencing the life that we live in Jamaica. If anything, its desensitizing us into taking it for granted that we are killing thousands of people a year. Yes I said WE!

It’s hard to turn from an artists based on the choices they make in their personal life but for the LIFE of me, I cannot accept discrimination against one group of people or ideal when in real life that is your lifestyle or mindset.

There’s a difference between teaching, reflecting and glorifying.

This morning, dancehall reagge awoke to the news that Oneil from popular group Voicemail was shot multiple times at his home in Kingston, Jamaica. He is still alive and we pray for him and his family during this time. Zip FM reported:

O’neil Edwards, member of the popular dancehall group, Voicemail, was shot several times at gate of to his house in Duhaney Park, Kingston, early this morning.

Edwards was ambushed and shot repeatedly as he attempted to open his gate after returning home about 1:00 this morning and is undergoing critical surgery at the Kingston Public Hospital. 

Unconfirmed reports indicate that robbery was the motive, and that he was shot at least five times and once in the head.

Residents say two gunmen were seen running away from the scene. Edwards was found lying on his back in a pool of blood in his backyard.

Poets don’t get a fraction of radio play of hardcore dancehall nor do they get paid as artistes, he stated at Seh Sup’m, a monthly event geared at exposing talent, held on Sunday at Village Café in Kingston.
