Marvadene Anderson is 15, and the world’s tallest teen at 6 foot 11. She was born in Jamaica and just started playing high school basketball in New Jersey. She got a scholarship for her skills on the court, and uses her size to intimidate people, block shots, and make lay-ups with ease.
Marvadene Anderson.The teen’s family stayed behind in Jamaica, and over the last two months that she’s been in the states, she’s been learning the rules of basketball. They play netball, a similar game, in Jamaica. She’s certainly already making a splash. “Everyone has come up to me and asked if I play college basketball. I told them I’m only a sophomore in high school. They gasped when I told them,” Anderson said (via New York Post ).
She said the hardest thing about being in the US is that it’s cold, and she’s having trouble finding shoes and clothes that fit her. She has a size 12 foot. Anderson’s nickname is Bubbles though, because she’s such a good sport about everything. “People are friendly with me because of my height and my personality. If I was tall and mean, I think I’d have a problem,” she said.
People are pleased with her performance so far, and coach Mary Coyle-Klinger said: “Of course she is going to be a star. She’s a natural. She’s only been playing two months and it’s amazing how well she’s adapted.”
