Jamaica & Other Caribbean countries to begin Welcoming Haitian Refugees

Posted by Zigz On January - 26 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Secretary General of CARICOM, Dr Edwin Carrington, has said that several member states have expressed a willingness to accommodate Haitians, who might seek refuge from the devastation caused by the January 12 earthquake.

Already, Jamaica is making preparations to accept Haitians, who may arrive on its shores, and Dr Carrington stated that other Governments are also onboard.

The CARICOM Secretary General was addressing journalists from across the regionat the weekend via satellite from Barbados.

He informed that there are also a number of injured persons, who will have to be taken out of Haiti for treatment and that Haiti’s CARICOM neighbours are also willing to accommodate them in their hospitals.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force and the Ministry of National Security are currently mapping an operational plan for dealing with possible refugees, while the Government is developing a comprehensive budget so that funds can be identified for dealing with expenses associated with the initiative.

Tony Rebel makes plea to cleanse dancehall

Posted by Zigz On January - 26 - 2010 5 COMMENTS

I have been arguing for a minute that for dancehall music to thrive economically on the international level, the artists have to move away from the “girls, guns, ganja” monotony.  Tony Rebel said similar things a few weeks back at Rebel Salute’s launch, but we differ in that I definitely am not telling any one to ditch dancehall for roots and culture just because that’s whats selling. Here’s a piece from Steven Jackson, writer at the Jamaica Observer, reporting on Tony Rebel arguing for a clean up of dancehall for the sake of making it a money maker:

Germany’s Adolf Hitler, France and the US taught the world about violence and sex, charged event organiser Tony Rebel in a plea to cleanse dancehall of explicit lyrics. Explicit dancehall, his argument suggested was not marketable in Europe and contributed to poor US sales in 2009.

“You can’t preach violence in music and expect the people of Germany to accept it. Because Hitler already show them what violence is. You cannot teach the French and the Americans about sex. A dem mek it,” Rebel who spoke at the recent launch of Rebel Salute stated.

The top deejays of 2009 were Mavado and Vybz Kartel whose explicit recordings and tribalised fans fuelled the ‘gully versus gaza’ divide. But Kartel and former mentor Bounty Killer also traded lyrical curses along with Flippa Mafia and Elephant Man. The music remained mainly underground but formed the subtext of poor sales in 2009: A year in which no dancehall artiste sold over 80,000 copies in the US market, according to Soundscan.

Rebel added: “What they love about us, is when them going through hardship and terrible times dem hear ‘don’t worry about a ting’. That is what they want…don’t apologise for endorsing and loving and support the real authentic side of Jamaica music.”

International reggae charts continue to be dominated by non Jamaican reggae artistes. For instance iTunes reggae charts in Japan, Germany and New Zealand, on January 1, had only one Jamaican-born artiste — Bob Marley — in the top ten, signalling to some pundits that Jamaica is losing influence on reggae.

Top sellers in the US market were Sean Paul’s Imperial Blaze (Atlantic Records), Matisyahu’s Light (Epic Records) and Reggae Gold (VP Records), which sold some 69,700, 56,700 and 40,000 respectively in North America. Conscious reggae group Morgan Heritage and dancehall producer-turned-singer Serani, made first week sales of 300 and 1,200 units respectively, but were still able to chart on Billboard.

Gaza Kim admits to being Beaten while Kartel is still unsure of these “allegations”

Posted by Zigz On January - 25 - 2010 3 COMMENTS

The question that i’m sure has been asked thousands of times today is “a wah really a gwaan pon di gaza?”

Apparently, Portmore Empire’s Gaza Kim tek a serious beating over the weekend and since the streets were already talking about it,  Kim released this statement to confirm that she was in fact “assaulted”

I will like to make it known that I’ve heard rumors about an incident that occurred over the weekend.

I Kim Hamilton AKA Gaza Kim will like to make it publicly known that I was indeed assaulted over the weekend. I’ve visited the doctor but I’m still traumatized but recuperating through my ordeal.

I’ve taken the necessary actions to correct the wrong that was done against me and legal advice is been sought.

I ask my fans, family and friends to not only sympathize but empathize with me in my time of need.
Future comments will be made through my publicist and legal team.

This statement is an official statement made available through my publicist and other media broadcast will be coordinated at a later date by my representatives.

Signed:Kim Hamilton

Not long after, Kartel released a statement about the same incident. Bwai, is like the Gaza Emperor cant catch a break! His camp is in controversy after controversy, as if being the most popular dj is not enough. Here is his statement, followed by what I think

In response to allegations that Kim Hamilton, popularly known as Adidjahiem Records/Portmore Empire siren Gaza Kim, was physically assaulted over the weekend, Adidjahiem Records CEO Adidja ‘Vybz Kartel’ Palmer issues the following statement:

I, Adidja Palmer, condemn this alleged attack on Gaza Kim. And if these allegations are true, I urge her to contact the relevant authorities if she has not yet done so,to deal the matter swiftly .

I do not condone violence, especially any attacks against females and children. Gaza Kim is a very young and very talented singer who I hope will reach far in her musical endeavors whether or not she is a part of the Portmore Empire. My deepest sentiments go out to her. –Adidja Palmer–

Now, me speculating:

Kartel it seriously look a way that you say “alleged”! Why didn’t you contact yuh artist before yuh reach New York to release statement? If she was indeed assaulted and didnt link you before releasing her statement then you, as the boss, coulda still try to see what was up in di empire

Then, by choosing “alleged” and “allegations” its almost as if he doesn’t believe Kim himself (then why should we), but then again Kartel is a real smart man, right,  he must know that that would have been questioned as undermining the beating.

Sounds like a breakdown in communication to me. Is what go so wrong that the Emperor couldn’t personally call him squaddy and see if shi okay or is he just ‘playin fool fi ketch wise’

How does ’she is very young’ drop een?? giving away more than you need to babes

Am I reading to far into it or does this sound like a precursor to the “you’re fired” speech——> ‘whether or not she is a part of the gaza” and the fact that now she has a separate legal and publicity team to the rest of the gaza….so yuh basically telling us that not everything smooth with Kim and the Gaza, right?

Im not saying is a gaza beatin’ shi get, but I AM saying that someting inna someting…………..but you all knew that already, dont?

World Bank waives Haiti debt payments

Posted by Zigz On January - 25 - 2010 1 COMMENT

WASHINGTON (AFP) – The World Bank said Thursday it was waiving Haiti’s debt payments for the next five years due to the devastation caused by the earthquake and is studying efforts to cancel the nation’s remaining debt.

In a statement, the Washington-based multilateral lender said Haiti’s debt to the World Bank, which is interest-free, is about 38 million dollars or around four percent of Haiti’s total external debt.

“Due to the crisis caused by the earthquake, we are waiving any payments on this debt for the next five years and at the same time we are working to find a way forward to cancel the remaining debt,” the statement said.

Last week the World Bank said it planned to provide an additional 100 million dollars in emergency aid to Haiti after the January 12 earthquake ravaged the impoverished nation. Officials fear up to 200,000 people were killed.

Since 2005 the development lender said it has provided grants — interest-free aid — of 363 million dollars to the Caribbean nation, the poorest country in the western hemisphere.

That amount does not include the 100 million dollars in grants announced on January 13, it said.

The World Bank and its sibling institution the International Monetary Fund classify Haiti among “heavily indebted poor countries” that are eligible for debt forgiveness. Haiti was granted 1.2 billion dollars in debt relief last June.

I know I am not Grace Jones or Stacy Mckenzie but even I know there is something terribly wrong with this picture. How you get front row to Louis Vuitton’s Paris fashion week show and wear the most obnoxious fur coat all night. Apparently Ms Amber Rose refused to take it off or put the hood down the whole night. If you ask me that’s a bit classless and the reason why kill dem dead Europeans swear that American are gaudy, crass, unsophisticated folks.  LMAO at the lady preeing Amber like “WTF is up with your hood-rich ho-turned-wife ass” and Kanye looking all doofy with his fur balled up and under his chair.

Film Students in Haiti Document Aftermath of quake in Jacmel

Posted by Zigz On January - 24 - 2010 1 COMMENT

Film Students in Haiti document the aftermath of the quake in a small town called Jacmel where the only film school in Haiti is. As a person who loves to be behind a camera myself there is a moral and personal struggle/question one has to ask themselves: am I exploiting the situation for some good footage or will my product be something that will help a situation or shed light on something. Here, I think the students have done an excellent job of showing the gritty aftermath but at the same time the image of the crushed old man with froth coming from his mouth is a filmic masterpiece that I would probably break my leg to capture. I felt bad myself for rewinding it over and over again to see this man. There is never a right answer for that stuff but I do hope that this video becomes more than just fodder for bloggers and video watchers and actually leads us to think more and do more for Haiti, not just because of an earthquake, but because they are human beings who’s ancestors fought a one of a kind struggle that led to my black ass being able to blog freely about race and culture now and you being able to read this

THE Pum-pum vs A Pum-pum: Which one are you?

Posted by Zigz On January - 24 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

2005

A woman will always know the differences between when she is A pum pum an when she is THE pum pum

When she’s THE pum pum its “Wha gwaan pums, what yuh need?”

When she’s A pum pum its “Wha gwaan pussy, wha yuh carry fi mi?”

When she’s the pum pum there’s this look in his eyes. This look, yea, my look, where I can see all he doesn’t have to say, wouldn’t say, but all he wants me to know

When she’s a pum pum, there’s this look in his eyes. No! Its actually a look in her eyes, searching out his eyes for the look. But then she feels blind, destitute, because she cannot see it. She bends her head, closes her eyes and forgets about that look.

When she’s the pum pum he moans, biting his lip as his power rises, he grips her breasts like the harnesses that they are. Harnessing his love, his life.

When she’s a pum pum he grunts like a hog and sometimes–>empty silence. He puts his hands behind his head, not caring for her breasts, oh no, that ended with HIS foreplay, while his seminal vesicle gets ready to burst and then it dies.

A girl will always know she is the pum pum when her man’s brothers smile and live like the sunshine with her and she’s able to gain from them, not parasitically, from this light and heat. They tell her “its your’s to take, we want oonu to have it all, this is the ites/heights of life”

She knows she is just a pum pum when the man’s friends smile because shi look good, because her ass phat, because gyal fi get fuck. She can gain nothing from them but shame and dishonor and even this is parasitically (yea, she sucks it from them). They tell her…they….they tell her nothing.

She knows, yes she feels it in her soul and hole that she is his pumpum when he talks, his mind talks to her’s and they equal minds making up.

She feels she is just a pum pum when he talks, he talks to his bredrin, the weedman, the girl down the road, the lady at the KFC drive-thru window but never really to her. A mind is a terrible thing to grow.

She knows, yes she lives that she is his pumpum when he wants to leave the lights on. He wants to visibly know and internalize every part of her body. She knows

She knows she is only a random pum pum when he has to do it in the shadow, roun the corner, in di bush. Is it that lil thing he’s scared to show her?

She lives that she is his pum pum when he strips her naked and takes his hands around the world of her body. Down the small of her back, tickling her belly-button, cupping her breasts in his hands, seeing if his hands will ever cover her whole ass, running his fingers through the natty lush gardens of her front.

She can never know this when she is just a pum pum. She only knows jagged hands cutting her body. She had to strip herself, even that joy he denied her and as his hands speed, uncaringly, over the lumps of her sensuality, her garden becomes ashy, burnt out, without nourishment.

She knows she is his because he lets her examine his body in great detail

She knows she is any ol pumpum because he refuses to let her see him unclothed unless he is to penetrate. And even so pants have zippers, skirts hold no restraints and panties, well they can

be pulled aside.

She knows that she is his because she knows that he is hers

She never knows that she is his because he was never hers

She knows that she is his because she sees the honor and pride as he embraces each soul of his family and how he affords her family the same respect and blesses her with all she’s been searching for withing life.

She will never be his, you know why- cause now she knows that he lacks honor and pride.

About Triston Palmer

Palmer was born in 1962 and grew up in the Waltham Park area of Kingston, and decided from an early age that he wanted to be a singer.[1][2] He began by singing to the accompaniment of Soul Syndicate guitarist Tony Chin. His first recording was “Love Is A Message” for producer Bunny Lee when he was eight years old, which was followed by “A-Class Girl” for the Black Solidarity label, which was co-run by Palmer and Ossie Thomas.[2][3][4] He came to the attention of producer/deejay Jah Thomas, who began a substantial association with Palmer with the track “Entertainment”, when Palmer was aged around 14.[2] He made a major breakthrough with his performance in 1979 at the General Penitentiary Memorial Concert for Claudie Massop, which also featured Bob Marley.[5] Palmer became a popular artist in the “singjay” style in the early 1980s.[1] “Entertainment” was a Jamaican hit and he enjoyed further successes with “Water Bubbling”, “Spliff Tail”, “Raving”, and “Run Around Woman”. Palmer also worked with Linval Thompson, who produced his Joker Lover and Settle Down Girl albums, and later George Phang, Tony Robinson, Sugar Minott, Bunny Gemini, and Castro Brown. At one point in the early 1980s, Palmer had nine songs in Jamaica’s Top 40.[5]

In the mid-1980s, Palmer became involved in the famine-relief charity project Music is Life, along with Freddie McGregor, Mutabaruka, Gregory Isaacs, Third World, Edi Fitzroy, and Steel Pulse, contributing to the charity single “Land of Africa”.[1]

His popularity continued through the 1980s, and in the 1990s he recorded the Three Against War song and album with Dennis Brown and Beenie Man.[1]

Palmer has worked as a producer himself, working with artists such as Phillip Frazer, Josie Wales, and Robert Ffrench, and has provided backing vocals for singers such as Sugar Minott, Tony Tuff, and Freddie McGregor.[6] He also built his own Star Creation studio.[3]

Ms Thing and Psycho Tan Bad go nude in “Bonify”

Posted by Zigz On January - 20 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

The latest sex-driven buzz in the dancehall is or better yet are Ms Thing’s boobs hanging out in the raw video for “Bonify”, her song with Psycho Tan Bad. The two artists are either playing the media real good or are really living out the story of their song in a “relation-shhhhhhhhhh-ip” (their words, not mine). Personally the breasts hanging out is neither here nor there to me; I hardly even consider bare boobs nudity, but it is definitely taking the dancehall sex element to a different level now that an artiste is coming forward on her own (boobs in hand) and not being ‘caught’. I like it, bold move and I think that women who cant appreciate a little boobage ever so often have a serious problem and are probably stuck up in the lesbo closet (lmao mommy I know u goin cuss me bout dat one, sound ign’ant fi real)

Psycho Tanbad’s stomach is banging but why cant we see waa gwaan below di waist?? Psycho whaa gwaan fi di uncut uncensored reel, us ladies wanna see……

India.Arie for EME awards with Gramps of Morgan Heritage **VIDEO INSIDE**

Posted by Zigz On January - 20 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

GRAMMY Award-winning songstress, India.Arie will be in Jamaica to perform the combination hit single, Therapy, with Gramps Morgan at the Excellence in Music and Entertainment (EME) Awards and also to receive the International Friend of Reggae Award. The awards ceremony will be held on Thursday, February 4 in the Gardens of the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in Kingston.

According to an enthusiastic-sounding Gramps, ever since the song has been released he has been encouraging India.Arie to come to Jamaica to “renew her acquaintance with the people … and what better time than now”.

Gramps, who has been pursuing a solo career for the past year, while still a member of Heritage, spoke briefly about his respect for R&B singer John Legend, who showed him “things about my voice and proved a true artiste”. He explained that the shows, some of which were back-to-back, can take its toll on a singer’s voice, “and I had to put in practice all these things which I knew, but which were reinforced,” he said.

The singer noted that working on the collabo and subsequent touring with India.Arie has seen them develop a connection that is deeply spiritual.

“Some people have been thinking otherwise, but it’s a brother and sister and also a heavily musical relationship,” he said firmly. “However, the spiritual connection is incredible,” Gramps declared, adding that he was looking forward to performing Therapy with India at the EME awards.

“The collaboration, Therapy, did very well and there was a snowball effect as I did Good Morning America, VH 1 and then India was kind enough to invite me on tour with her and John Legend,” Gramps Morgan, also of sibling group Morgan Heritage explained.

Fresh from Lockup, Mystikal Discusses prison bid

Posted by Zigz On January - 20 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

*New Orleans rapper Mystikal has given his first radio interview following a six-year prison term for sexual battery and extortion.

“My feet back on the ground. Man it’s been a long time,” the MC told radio jock Wild Wayne from New Orleans’ Q93. “I’m back. I’m still trying to feel this reality. It feels like a dream. Watch how I’m going to shake this world up now. I want reparation!”

Following his release from jail last week, the artist – best known for his hits “Shake Ya Ass” and “Danger (Been So Long)” – has five years of probation and must now register as a sex offender in Louisiana.

Mystikal says he has plenty of new material written and record labels have expressed interest in signing him, although he does owe one more album – as far as he understands – to Jive records.

Asked what got him through the six-years on lockdown, Mystikal – born Michael Tyler – said, “To be honest, I ain’t do nothing. It had to be God. When I look now, it seems like it was easy because it’s over. But going through it — it was tough. I had to get out the way and let God handle it for me. He had his arms around me tight.”

“You gotta be down to earth,” he continued. “I took it in stride. There’s always worse [things]: especially after 1994, the death of my sister. Nothing could be that bad. Then [No Limit rapper] Soulja Slim had just died [in 2003]. I was grieving him and mourning him. I was kinda numb. It was a lot of things. But now I’m back.”
