POETIC: Nothing To Regret- By Kadi aka ‘Da Band’

Posted by Da Band On December - 31 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS
I sit here and write with tears in my eyes.
Tears that you managed to pull from the depths of my heart…
When you broke it!
Your love for me was conditional,
It lasted while you needed it!
My happiness didn’t matter to you,
You could care less about my feelings!
It was your way or your way…
I didn’t matter!
Unfortunate for me, I made you my world…
You were my last thought before I went to sleep at night,
My first thought when I woke up in the morning…
My everything!
With the view of three moons, and the rise of four suns, its all gone!
What was once my everything is now nothing!
Nothing to think about, because its too depressing…
Nothing to look forward to, becaue its over…
And nothing to regret, because at the time, you were right!

THE ROOTS CALL ON FANS TO DESIGN JAM SESSION LOGO

Posted by Zigz On December - 31 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

Acclaimed hip-hop group THE ROOTS are giving fans the chance to get creative and come up with a new logo for their famous Jam Session in an online competition.
The Roots Jam Session is widely considered to be one of the most exciting music extravaganzas during the award season, bringing together a diverse range of artists, including rockers Travis Barker and Fall Out Boy and Jewish reggae star Matisyahu, to collaborate with the band.
And The Roots want to get their fans heavily involved in the upcoming sixth annual Roots Jam Session by launching a search for the most innovative logo via Twitter.com.
Artists have been urged to send in links to their designs to the event’s page on the social networking site until 7 January (10). A winner will be announced on Twitter shortly after the closing date.
The Roots Jam Session is scheduled to take place in Los Angeles on 30 January (10), on the eve of the Grammy Awards.

URINE TESTS ORDERED FOR MAYWEATHER/PACQUIAO

Posted by Zigz On December - 31 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

The Nevada boxing commission on Monday ordered Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. to submit to urine tests in an attempt to break a stalemate that has threatened to derail their proposed March 13 megafight.

Each boxer must submit to the tests within 48 hours or face possible fines or suspension by the Nevada Athletic commission, reports the Associated Press.

“That at least starts the ball rolling,” said Keith Kizer, the commission’s executive director.

As previously reported, Mayweather’s camp has accused Pacquiao of using steroids, and has demanded that the Filipino fighter submit to additional blood tests, which are necessary to find performance-enhancing drugs that may not be detected by urine tests alone.

Mayweather backed off earlier on a demand for the tests to be conducted by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency but has insisted all along that they be done randomly and include blood tests within 30 days before the fight, preferably two days before.

Pacquiao argued that a blood test so close to a fight would weaken him in the ring. Mayweather’s representatives said there was footage on HBO’s “24/7″ program that showed Pacquiao having blood taken 14 days before his knockout win over Ricky Hatton.

Mayweather’s promoter, Richard Schaefer, said he was told that Top Rank representatives would be talking to Pacquiao in the Philippines this week to see what cutoff date he would agree to on blood testing. Schaefer said there was a possibility the two sides could compromise somewhere between Mayweather’s demand for testing up until the weigh-in and the 14 days Pacquiao had blood taken prior to the Hatton fight.

The commission’s demand for urine tests comes a day after Pacquiao promoter Bob Arum said he would not budge off a proposal to do just three blood tests on the two fighters — and none within 30 days of the fight. Arum, who had suggested the NAC decide next month who will prevail in the dispute, said he planned to begin negotiating a fight with Paul Malignaggi if Mayweather’s camp didn’t agree to the terms.

But Mayweather’s manager, Leonard Ellerbe, said Monday there would be no fight on Arum’s terms, and charged the promoter with trying to shift the blame for the fight not happening from Pacquiao’s side to Mayweather.

“If he’s unwilling to do random blood and urine it’s a nonstarter,” Ellerbe told The Associated Press. “He knows that. If they want to walk away from the richest fight in the history of the sport, that’s their decision.”

Why LISA HYPE got Kicked out of the Gaza

Posted by Zigz On December - 31 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

Now that Lisa is no longer a member of Portmore Empire she has changed her name to Lisa Hyper. The name change is not surprising (even though I thought she would have waited a bit longer) but Lisa, yuh coulda come better because ‘Hyper’ is wacker than ‘Hype’ is wack. In an interview on Jamaica Live tv on Wednesday night, Lisa admitted that if the picture was not leaked she would not have had to leave the gaza. I didn’t see the entire interview but I guess that dispells the other chatter bubbling that it all depended on her performance at Sting or the release of the tune “Sting Aftermath” against the order of Addi the Teacha.

Where's the Loyalty Adi?

The song “Sting Night (Stop Chat)” disses not 1, nor 2 nor 3 artistes; in fact Lisa disses a dancehall dime -a whole TEN acts- a dancehall dozen if yuh count selector Foota Hype whose name is mangled with his girl’s, and if yuh count Twins a Twins as two.   In the interview yesterday, Lisa assured that if she called their name she was straight up calling them out and it seems like Lisa not tryiny to ease up from the music or any war that may come about.

Spice is the one who recieved the most disses in the song and she is the first to reply with a diss track of her own. Listen to both tunes below

But Seaga couldn’t bring himself to have that conversation of equals with Golding. So the New Democratic Movement was formed and then turned back into the Old Jamaica Labour Party. New wine in old bottles. Or maybe it’s really old wine in old bottles. And the whole nation is now suffering from Edward Seaga’s error of judgment. “Is high time fi tek goat mout offa Bruce.” After all, it’s Christmas.

So Lisa what you goin do with the tattoo??

Lisa Hype is no longer a part of the Portmore Empire. The members of the Empire have unanimously agreed to end our professional relationship especially in light of certain ‘developments’ that have come to our attention regarding her overall conduct, conduct that is not consistent with the decorum expected of a member of the Portmore Empire. She is an incredible artiste and we wish for her all the best in her future endeavours, but Lisa Hype will not play a future role in the Empire as she no longer fits in with our organisational goals as we move forward in 2010.

EMINEM TO DROP HOMOPHOBIC LYRICS FOR UK GIG: Rapper looking to avoid wrath of gay-rights groups

Posted by Zigz On December - 29 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

Some of our artistes need to take a page out of Em’s book; just because you alter your act doesn’t mean you are bowing to the gay rights groups,  it just mean yuh love yuh career:

In advance of his scheduled appearance at next summer’s Wireless Festival in the UK, Eminem has agreed to strip his performance of homophobic lyrics in order to avoid any threat of protest from gay activist groups, such as OutRage!According to UK’s Evening Standard, OutRage! agreed to refrain from picketing the concert, as long as Eminem does not use lyrics that encourage or incite hatred against gay people.

Festival spokesman David Allison said the rapper agreed to sign up after he was assured there would be no protests at the show. In return, Slim will censor his lyrics to avoid confrontation with the gay rights groups in the country.

OutRage! and other similar groups have actively boycotted singers like Beenie Man and Buju Banton, who have had tours of the country interrupted due to protests over their homophobic lyrics.

Socially Conscious Hip Hop group Number Seven, performs for the MADD benefit concert

Posted by Zigz On December - 29 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

Number Seven, a hip-hop and R&B group was recently the featured artists at a benefit concert, hosted by MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving). The concert took place at the Marion Civic Center (Marion, Illinois) and many of the churches and organizations in the community showed up to show their support.  There were performances by the Omega Troops Youth Group, Red Letter Youth Group, Cornerstone Praise Team and many more.

Linda Sargent, the director and victim advocate of MADD in the Southern Illinois area, coordinated the benefit Concert.  As a two-time victim of drunk driving, Linda has decided to fight back by raising awareness. At the concert she reminded those in attendance that “Every 30 seconds someone dies of drunk driving.” The event was coordinated to help the police officers purchase better equipment that will help identify drunk drivers.

The group, Number Seven was asked to be involved in this event because their songs tackle different issues in the community. As a socially conscious group, they perform songs that talk about abuse, mental illness and the negative effects of alcohol. Delora, one of the group members, lost her grandfather to a drunk driver. She stated, “being involved in this event allows me to honor my late grandfather.”

The group performed some of their top hits such as, Number Seven, It’s Good To be Alive, Movin’, Fight Til the End and I’m Praying.

Jamaican Widow Finally Gets Green Card, Prez Obama Overturns “Widow’s Penalty”

Posted by Zigz On December - 29 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

A Jamaican widow who has been fighting for residency in the U.S. since 2003, has finally been given her green card.

The early Christmas gift was granted to Osserritta Robinson on Tuesday, years after her husband died in the 2003 Staten Island ferry crash.

The approval came just weeks after President Barack Obama signed a law in October overturning the `widow`s penalty` that made foreigners subject to expulsion if their American spouses died within two years of marriage and before their applications for permanent residency had been approved.

Robinson had taken her case to the U.S. Supreme Court but given the result of her application, she will now drop the case, her attorney said.

Hundreds of other spouses, like Robinson, have been affected by the rule before it was overturned this year.

Dr Carolyn Cooper Says “Seaga put ‘goat mouth’ on Bruce”

Posted by Zigz On December - 28 - 2009 1 COMMENT

I love reading pieces from Dr Carolyn Cooper! Here she gives her on insight on the recent tax hike in Jamaica; now, women have to add GCT to sanitary napkins and tampons! She discusses the country’s leader who approved this hike (bruce Golding) alongside his political party’s predecessor, Edward Seaga, with classic Jamaican humor.  Dr Cooper also points out that now, some women and girls will have to go back to (or learn how to use) a bloodclaat because stayfree and tampax are too expensive. So Bruce, does this mean that yuh going free up use of this ‘bad’ word, now that it is a part of our monthly routines

Over a decade ago, Edward Seaga authoritatively decla-red that Bruce Golding was not fit to lead the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP). I have a feeling that these days he would add, “or the country.”

At the time, it sounded wicked and spiteful. But now you have to wonder what, exactly, Eddie saw – or didn’t see – in Mr Golding to incite that terrible judgment.

Eddie put ‘goat mouth’ on poor Bruce. The Dictionary of Jamaican English defines ‘goat mouth’ as “a mouth like a goat’s, believed to indicate the possession of prophetic powers and the power to inflict bad luck, disease, etc.” Seaga’s mouth is not literally shaped like a goat’s, of course. But his prophetic power to inflict bad luck is unquestionable.

Our prime minister just doesn’t seem to be handling the affairs of state efficiently. In the middle of an already dread Christmas season, he announces an alarming new tax regime. I was appalled to hear that even sanitary pads and tampons were going to attract GCT. The thought of girls having to resort to washing menstrual cloths to save money provoked a very bloody bad word.

The fearful IMF negotiations are stretching out longer and longer. Only God and the Government know what the fund has in store for us. There has been no public debate on the ‘conditionalities.’ If this first round of taxation is any indicator, we’re heading right back to the 1970s:

Rich people shopping in Miami and poor people fighting in supermarkets for scarce goods; or, worse, settling for next to nothing. And now “is definitely not Manley fault.”

Then there’s that gruesome extradition matter dangling over our collective heads like a hangman’s noose. The prime minister is bobbing and weaving. All in all, is pure worries for Bruce. As proverbial wisdom puts it, ‘uneasy lies the head that wears the crown.’ Bruce’s crown of thorns must be ‘jooking’ him. And no one is likely to see him as the Messiah.

Dr Donna Hope-Marquis says No Link Between Dancehall and violence Among Youth

Posted by Zigz On December - 28 - 2009 4 COMMENTS

A study on violence and dancehall, led by Dr Donna Hope-Marquis, has found that there is no correlation between the two.

Funded by the Office of the Principal at the University of the West Indies (UWI), through the Special Initiatives Research Fund, the research was conducted among 300 15-24 year-olds in Kingston, St Andrew, St Catherine and Clarendon between June and August this year.

Hope-Marquis is a lecturer in Reggae Studies at the UWI.

Control and case grouping were used in the study and the persons participating were asked to respond to questionnaires which established, among other factors, their social background, music consumption and perception of music. In both cases, dancehall music was the favourite music, followed by R&B.

When asked if they believed dancehall music promoted violence, 55 per cent of the control group said yes, compared to 42 per cent of the case group. However, it is a case of the music being violent but not making them feel violent personally.

Forty-two per cent of the control group said that family members were influenced by dancehall music, and 37 per cent said friends, with the remaining percentage saying themselves. For the case group, it was 20.7 per cent family, 36.7 per cent friends, and themselves the remaining percentage.

Among the influences individual respondents identified were a desire to dress and dance like the artiste, with many respondents speaking to smoking marijuana and drinking alcohol. There was also the encouragement not to give up, to take up the gun, language and hairstyle, to become an artiste, having lots of sex, to get a good education, and fighting.

One respondent said that it “opened my eyes to see how others live”, while another spoke about the influence “to become a gallis”.

Hope-Marquis says the study is leading in a direction of not just looking at the cultural aspects of music and documenting it for posterity, “but also to try and understand from a scientific perspective how the music impacts on the society.”

Sex Tape Nuh Carry Age Bias!! 86 Year Old Indian Governor Resigns after tape is released

Posted by Zigz On December - 28 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

Bwai, I tell you about these men letting their greedy d*cks rule and ruin their lives. If this old man wasn’t so grabbalicious he could have had his cakes (and eat them too :-) ) without having to let go off his big paying, all powerful job.

Governor Narain Dutt Tiwari, a prominent leader in India, resigned on Sunday after a local news station blasted a 3 1/2 minute video of him in bed with three young women. Not that there’s anything weird about an 86-year-old in a foursome sex tape (really), but it was actually going back on his word that led to him being caught.

Apparently, Tiwari would only agree to fulfilling a mining lease for a local woman if she provided him with sexual favours multiplied by 3. This woman is no better because she only decided to reveal the tape because the greedy old bugger did not follow through with the lease after he was done with the jumpoffs.

Needless to say the horny, corrupted grandpa says the tape has been doctored to favor him, but he’s resigning anyway, on the day the tape is released, because of ‘health reasons.’
